Fiesta Noche del Rio
This outdoor cultural dance review is an artistic landmark within the San Antonio community. It’s been produced annually since 1957 and is the oldest show of its kind in the U.S. Every year, the Alamo Kiwanis Club sponsors the grandiose performance with proceeds going to children’s charities. Since the inception of the show, over $2.75 million has been donated.
Each summer, a cast of professional dancers, musicians, and singers put on a show and entertain thousands. Over the years, more than 1 million people have witnessed the spectacle of this mesmerizing show. The show is a massive dance review and features dance numbers from various cultures, including Argentina, Mexico, Spain, and Texas.
This year’s Fiesta Noche del Rio takes place every Friday and Saturday night until August 12th. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. underneath the night sky at the Arneson Theatre located in La Villita, which is the little Spanish arts villages on the banks of the river. This outdoor venue was built in 1939 under the Works Progress Administration and is nestled among the winding paths of the San Antonio River Walk.
The stage sits across the river from the grassy audience seating area, making this a one-of-a-kind venue. The setting is quite surreal. The local riverboats will effortlessly meander by on the river while you and your crew watch the show unfold across the water. You’ll want to arrive a bit early, as seating is first come first served, and the best spots are taken quickly. The dance numbers are mesmerizing. You’ll be in awe of the energy of the performers and probably wonder how they continue without fainting.
After the show, you can keep the energy and excitement going and hit the River Walk for a stroll. This network of walkways and bridges that weave around the San Antonio River is a hotbed of activity. Numerous shops, restaurants, and nightlife venues line these paths, providing endless opportunities for fun. Step into one of the many local bars on the walk and grab an ice-cold beverage. Once you’ve tired of walking, hop on a famous river boat. The narrated tour will give you a new perspective of the area. You can find out more information and purchase tickets online.
